Managing Interactions

Managing contact between children and older/bigger youth requires that adults provide structure and supervision. At least 40% of sexually abused children are abused by older or larger youth.

1. Carefully supervise the contacts between children and teens.

2. Adult should always be present.

Sometimes organizations claim:
They encourage teens to supervise and allow them to be alone with children in order to help them learn responsibility.
• Allowing teens to have one-on-one time puts children in a potentially harmful situation.

Precautions
• The play area is right outside the building/house so staff/parents can watch from the window.
• An adult should always be nearby to provide direct supervision.
