More about this ministry
We have an understanding based on (John 5 v17), that our God is always at work, and hence we strive to assist or support ministries and programs that are already running.
We look for the fruit (Mth 12v33) in people’s ministries and programs that bring glory to our God and choose to support those works before pioneering new works out of Valley Vineyard.
We see people as been created in the image of God (Gen1v26-27) and endeavour to respect such a remarkable creation as it deserves. (Psl 139v 14-18)(Mth 22 v39) We strive through the Compassion Ministry programs to motivate one another to serve our community (Heb 10v24) We endeavour to restore dignity by supplying practical needs like food, clothes, toiletries, housing etc(Mth 25v32-46). We aim to heal the broken hearted by supporting ministries like work done in prisons and with orphans and widows etc (James 1v27), we aim to heal the sick with prayer (James 5 v14-15) and medicine (1 Tim 5v23) and we aim to help support education initiatives so people can be self reliant with there God given abilities to sustain themselves and bless others. (Eph4v28) (Eph 6v 7-8). From time to time we just like to bless those around us who are in need. (Rom 12v8)
THE COMPASSION MINISTRY AND THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
It is titled so as to remind us of who God is, a God of great compassion for His people (Psalm 86 v15 “But you O Lord are a God of compassion…..”) (NLT)
And to remind us of our heart attitude towards serving our neighbour as showed in the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10v25-37) Lk 10v 33 “ Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him.” (NLT)
And I believe the name reminds us of the many times our Lord Jesus interacted with people during His time here on earth. (Mth 9 v36; Mth14v14; Mk1v41; Mk6v34; Lk7v13 )
It is important for us that this ministry remains Christ centred, all we do is to bring glory to our God, first and foremost. (Rom 11v36)(Heb 13 v21) Although not all the recipients of the ministries may come to the full knowledge and grace of God, our focus and our aim are to Love Him first above all and to love our neighbours.(Mth 22v37-38)
It is important to note that although compassion I believe is a key theme in our serving of our neighbour, we serve firstly out of obedience, as the late John Wimber put it, “This is not to say that we only minister when we ‘feel’ compassionate. We minister out of obedience. Compassion is not devoid of feeling but it is more than feelings. Compassion is placed within the bowels of the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit and so reflects God’s heart of justice and mercy towards a broken world.”( John Wimber from his Pastoral letters 1 pg 7)
We ask in hope for God’s favour to be on us at all times so we can be a resource to those in our community, and serve them with the great love God has put in us through His son Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
