Some extracts from “The Shack” by William P. Young
But in spite of his anger and depression, Mack knew that he needed some answers. He realized he was stuck, and Sunday prayers and hymns were not cutting it anymore, if they ever really had. Cloistered spirituality seemed to change nothing in the lives of the people he knew, except maybe his wife Nan. But she was special. God might really love her. She was not a screw-up like him. He was sick of God and God’s religion, sick of all the religious social clubs that did not seem to make any real difference or affect any real changes. Yes, Mack wanted more, and he was about to get much more than he bargained for.
Chapter 4
God replied, “I am Light and I am Good. I am Love and there is no darkness in me. Light and Good actually exist. So, removing yourself from me will plunge you into darkness. Declaring independence will result in evil because apart from me, you can only draw upon yourself. That is death because you have separated yourself from me: Life!”
Chaper 9
Jesus asked, “Do you think humans were designed to live in the present or the past or the future?”
Chapter 10
Jesus said,” It’s extremely hard to rescue someone unless they are willing to trust you, and that is all I ask. When you start to sink, let me rescue you.”
It seemed like a simple request, but Mack was used to being the lifeguard, not the once drowning. “Jesus, I’m not sure I know how to . . .”
“Let me show you. Just keep giving me the little bit of faith you have, and together we’ll watch it grow.”
